Sessions are set in the beautiful outdoors and conducted by a therapy team consisting of a licensed mental health professional and horse specialist, and horses.

Programs for Life and Growth

Life skill programs are designed to promote interpersonal and social competency. You will learn skills for life in a fun, safe and supportive environment. Guided ground-based activities with horses will help develop skills to better manage everyday challenges at home, work and school. This hands on innovative experiential approach leads to increased self awareness, self understanding, and personal growth. It also provides people with the opportunity to learn valuable social skills.

Why Horses?

Horses are the most popularly used animal for human therapy. This is because, horses have tha ability to respond immediately and give feedback to the rider's action or behavior. Horses are also able to mirror the rider's emotion.

The basis of the therapy is that because horses behave similarly like human beings do in their social and responsive behavior; it is always easy for patients to establish connection with the horse.

The Eagala Model

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy

Horse Sense for Humans uses the Eagala model of Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Personal Development and is a leading service provider in the Eurobodalla Shire and the NSW South Coast.

The Eagala model was founded in 1999 to focus on providing a standard and structure for Equine Assisted Therapy. The Eagala standard includes a certification process, code of ethics and ethics committee and ongoing professional education which assures our clients a high level of professionalism.

The Eagala model is unique because it utilises a therapeutic team approach and uses ground based activities, which do not involve any horse riding. The model is solution-oriented where horses become metaphors to help clients find their own solutions. Eagala adheres to a strong Code of Ethics.

Individuals, families, couples, youth and groups can all benefit from this powerful and effective therapeutic approach. A variety of mental health and personal development issues can be addressed such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, Autism, substance abuse, eating disorders, abuse, trauma, relationship problems, communication challenges, and social skills.
